Rich.
This is my charming friend Rich, a genuinely nice guy. In general you might find him at the Taco Truck on First Ave., but in this picture I ran into him downtown during the Oscar Grant sentence rally. The only other time I ran into him downtown was in the midst of action at the Oscar Grant verdict rally, where people were just starting to loot the foot locker. I asked him what he thought of the verdict, and he gave a pretty good response. Since I've met him, he has helped call out orders, take pictures of people fresh from the bar, hold up my bicycle when I was too drunk to do so, and sometimes make a lady or two smile. His tag line is something like, "God made lady's gorgeous, but he made guys handsome."
One night when waiting for my burrito he showed me how he slept in the military during NAM. He spun around and stuck his back to mine, and whipped out a very old looking military ID. He told me he saw a good many of a man get blown away. Its people like this that you see all the time in different settings and can't help but feel the soul or flavor of Oakland. Help him out tonight, will ya?

Fear the Reaper
Life isn't what it used to be. You've got bills for things that just waste your time, and you already waste your time. You're tied down to a partner, a mortgage, or just stuck renting and barley trying to survive. Somehow, your not able to escape as often, and when you do you wonder why its at the bar. Is it a real escape? What happened to those dreams man? Is this it? Maybe you're just too tired after work. What are we doing with all that time?

Skate and Survive, Skate and Survive!
During the Oscar Grant Rally, there was admittedly a ton of downtime. People who weren't watching the speakers, or staring into riot cops shielded, pig like eyes, were kind of just wandering around. People got kind of bored even. Skaters however took the opportunity to rage on an empty Broadway. Good.

Brainsqueeze
I went to both days of the TANKCRIMES : BRAINSQUEEZE this weekend. Two nights of amazing bands, a short bike ride away from my house. I was having way too much fun to take pictures, except for this one.

Dude.
This guy started hanging out outside Gilman St. at crust shows. Bandannas on his cats, patched pants, bummin' for cigarettes. It wasn't the life style he was trying to live, you know?
